meeting between acid seller and acid user
On March 2014 at 3.00 pm, a sharing meeting was held
between acid sellers and acid users with a view to stop selling acid without
license at conference hall, Deputy Commissioner office, Mymensingh in
participation of 17 women and 50 men. The chief guest of the meeting was
Mustakim Billah, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Mymensingh. The special guests were
A.M Jahangir Alam, additional police super (DSB), A.K.M Tariqul Alam, CEO,
Mymensingh municipality, Md. Hamidul Haq, Assistant police super, Begum Rokeya,
executive director, Sabalamby Unnayan Samity, Swedish representatives, Ataul
Karim Khokon, secretary, pressclub, Mymensingh and Siddik Rubel, coordinator,
Acid Survivors Foundation (ASF). Mollika Khatun, Additional district magistrate
presided over the meeting. In the meeting, the guests said that license should
be ensured through DC those who have no license and police monitoing will be
strengthened in this regard. Monitoring will also be strengthened in
educational institutes, battery association and goldsmith association so that
the open flow of acid does not enter into mass people. The shop keepers have to
use register to stop open flow of acid, to reduce the availability of acid and
to measure and monitor the quantity of acid using in which areas. District
health administration will give emphasis on treatment of acid burned patients.
If it is needed to send to ASF then health administration will play necessary
role. To increase awareness among the political, social and religious elites
about acid throwing issue. Security will be ensured for acid victims and
witnesses and actual facts will be taken from survivors for getting justice. Control
on acid will be brought by raising consciousness among the mass people. It was
recommended that acid law will be implanted properly. The president of the
meeting ended the meeting by giving thanks to all for their important opinions.
