On 8 March 2014, International Women Day is
celebrated worldwide with a view to keep the rights, dignity and respect of
women. By keeping the slogan “Progress
depends on equal participation of men and women”, 15 days long different
programs were organized by ACCESS-Access of women in social, economical and
political sector project of SUS this year. The day was celebrated through
rally, autobiography of successful women, women fair, discussion meeting,
public dialogue on bad effect, protection and reformation of law regarding
early marriage by the participation of grass-root people, publish leaflet,
cultural occasion and debate competition among the student at college level.
SUS has been implementing its different development
efforts by considering the following issues such as: freedom of expression of
women, bringing equalily between men and women, prevailing women friendly
environment, economical emancipation of women, equal participation of women in
politics, protection of early marriage etc. ACCESS project of SUS organized
public dialogues on “Bad effect,
protection and reformation of law regarding early marriage” at 2 unions of
Netrakona sadar upazila and 2 unions of Kendua upazila of Netrakona district with
the participation of 552 participants (Male: 183 and female: 369) such as: UP
chairmen, members, teachers, students, religious leaders, kazi (Marriage
registrars), members of jono murcha (Pressure group), members of spouse and
nari murcha (Women group), development workers, journalists, representatives of
civil society, government officials, political leaders, police administration,
notary public, lawyers, members of Stop Violence Against Women (SVAW) committee.
